How We Started and Going
Foundation of the Association
SLGDEA was officially launched in November 2024 to address challenges facing midstream of the Gold Value & Supply Chain particularly gold dealers and exporters, providing a coordinated approach to improve industry standards. The association quickly established strategic partnerships with local artisanal miners, mining Districts, Chiefdoms and stakeholders to promote fair Gold trade practices.

Pioneering a Unified Code of Ethics
One of our first milestones was the drafting and implementation of a Code of Ethics for gold dealers and exporters to ensure ethical sourcing and traceability of gold.

Government Engagement
Within the first month, SLGDEA engaged with government authorities to begin advocating for favorable policies and frameworks that benefit gold trade participants and align with international standards.

Supporting Artisanal Miners
SLGDEA initiated workshops and awareness programs to educate artisanal miners on responsible mining practices, improved safety, and increasing their economic returns.

NGO, CSO & Other stakeholder Engagement
SLGDEA participated in many capacity building sessions at the Regional Sub-Advisory Group level held by Global ASGM NGO PACT with support and sponsorship from the European Union (EU) and the German Government under Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ which culminated into the PACT-SLGDEA Round Table sessions & CRAFT-CODE adoption.
